AN INTRODUCTION TO THE INSTITUTE
The Dato Psychoanalytic Institute designs and conducts psychoanalytic coaching, consulting, and training programs for experienced business and professional leaders. Psychoanalytic Coaching is designed to clarify personal identity, purpose, and commitment and strengthen professional performance, productivity, and profitability. Psychoanalytic Consulting is designed to maintain and strengthen the key psychoanalytic concepts, skills, strategies, and tactics learned by the coaching and training students who have successfully completed our programs. Psychoanalytic Training is designed for professional coaches who are committed to learning and mastering the science and art of psychoanalytic coaching. Dato Psychoanalytic Institute was established in 1974 and functions under the direction of Robert Dato, Ph.D., NCPsyA, a Board Cerified Psychoanalyst.
PSYCHOANALYTIC COACHING PROGRAM
Our Psychoanalytic Coaching Program is custom designed to accommodate the general and specific needs of our students. Each program has common features and important options that offer a range of flexibility. These features and options include: (1) Sessions conducted at the Institute and/or by telephone; (2) Weekly or biweekly session frequency options; (3) Optional self-assessment at the beginning of each session using one or several of the Institute's six assessment/evaluation instruments; (4) Telephone and email consultations between coaching sessions for urgent problems that require immediate input from the psychoanalytic coach; (5) Dimensions of the Mind, a book of essential psychoanalytic concepts; (6) Supplementary and revised conceptual models, articles, readings, epigrams, poems and other materials that are relevant to the student's development.
PSYCHOANALYTIC CONSULTING PROGRAM
Our Psychoanalytic Consulting Program is a maintenance program that we provide for our coaching and training students. After the coaching or training program is completed, there is still a need for reinforcement. Students apply what they have learned, but many wish to have ongoing contact with their coach or trainer to maintain the quality of their knowledge, skills, strategies, and tactics. They occasionally are confronted with complex situations that require considerable expertise and experience to resolve. This program allows analytic students to work at a regular session frequency of once a month and/or on a need basis. Students in the consultation program enjoy a higher level of confidence because they always have a safety net available that offers them the protection, direction, and support they need to address and resolve the problems they encounter.
PSYCHOANALYTIC TRAINING PROGRAM
Our Psychoanalytic Training Program offers rigorous training in psychoanalytic coaching for qualified, experienced, and committed coaches who are currently practicing either internally or externally. Psychoanalytic training introduces a unique coaching orientation contained in The Science of Psychoanalytic Coaching which is significantly broader and deeper than the nonanalytic coaching orientations. Our students learn how to conduct psychoanalytic coaching by mastering the psychoanalytic principles, concepts, strategies, tactics, and skills that are relevant to psychoanalytic coaching. Our students must be ready, willing, and able to analyze and to resolve any and all personal obstacles to their professional development. We expect our students to achieve a superior level of personal and professional development before we consider them qualified to practice.
HOW TO APPLY TO OUR ANALYTIC PROGRAMS
Qualified individuals who want to apply to one of our three psychoanalytic programs are invited to participate in a Free Initial Consultation. This free consultation is conducted at the Institute for local applicants, and by telephone for applicants who live at a great distance from the Institute. All information that is provided by the applicant is considered strictly confidential. The four goals of the this initial consultation are to: (1) Summarize the applicant's personal and professional background; (2) Identify his current personal and career challenges; (3) Develop and prioritize his program goals; (4) Assess comfort and compatibility between the applicant and coach. If there is a firm mutual agreement to work collaboratively, the coach reviews the Institute contract with the applicant, and if the applicant accepts all contractual terms, he or she becomes a student of the Institute.
